Links to folders and to files are displayed as files of an unknown file type when you open an FTP Web site in SharePoint Designer 2007

You open a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Web site in Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007. If the FTP Web site contains links or shortcuts to folders and to files, you may notice the following symptoms:

• The icon that represents a folder is not displayed next to a link to a folder.
• The icon that represents the appropriate file type is not displayed next to a link to a file.

Instead, the icon that is displayed next to a link is the icon that represents a file of an unknown file type. Therefore, you cannot determine whether the link represents a shortcut to a folder or to a file. If the link represents a shortcut to a file, you cannot determine the file type. Additionally, when you double-click a link to a folder, the folder does not open. You cannot view the contents of the folder.

This issue occurs because SharePoint Designer 2007 processes links to folders and links to files as binary files of an unknown type.

To work around this issue if the link is to a folder, do not use the link to open the folder. Instead, locate the folder, and then open it directly.
