Message appears on the status bar when you start Word: "Running virus scan"

SYMPTOMS

When you try to start Microsoft Office Word 2007 or Microsoft Office Word 2003, Word may start slowly. Additionally, the following message appears on the status bar:
running virus scan.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when a third-party Word add-in library file (.wll) is loaded from an Office startup folder.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods:

Method 1: Uninstall the program that installed the add-in

1.Exit Word.
2.Click Start, click Run, type Appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
3.In the Currently installed programs list, click the program that installed the add-in.
4.Click Remove.

Method 2: Remove the Word add-in library file from the startup folder

1.Exit Word.
2.Locate the Word add-in library (.wll) file in the startup folders. By default, the startup folders are located in the following paths:
Microsoft Office Word 2007
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\STARTUP
C:\Documents and Settings\Your_User_Name\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP
Microsoft Office Word 2003
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\STARTUP
C:\Documents and Settings\Your_User_Name\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP
3.Delete the .wll file, and then start Word again.
