SYMPTOMS

When you run the Start Configurator function in Business Analytics in Microsoft Business Solutions - Navision 4.0, you receive the following error message:
Could not convert variant of type (Dispatch) into type (OleStr).

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you create a cube in Business Analytics that is based on an empty table.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, delete the cube that is based on an empty table. Additionally, delete the dimensions that were created for this cube.

MORE INFORMATION

When you open the BA Db. Overview window in Microsoft Navision, demo cubes are automatically created. When you run the Start Configurator function for these demo cubes in a customer database, you may receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section. You may receive this error message if one or more of the tables on which the demo cubes are based are empty.

For example, if a customer does not use the Opportunities functionality, the Opportunity Entry table does not contain any data. When you run the Start Configurator function for the demo cubes, you receive the error message. You receive the error message because the Opportunity Entry table on which the Opportunity Entry cube is based is empty.
