Symptoms

When you try to update the Microsoft Windows Defender definition set, you may receive an "error 0x8024002b" error message. This problem occurs when your computer is running Software Update Services (SUS) 1.0.

Cause

This problem occurs because SUS 1.0 is not a supported delivery mechanism for Windows Defender definitions.

Workaround

To work around this problem, install Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS). Then, deploy Windows Defender.
