Description of the Microsoft Windows registry SYMPTOMSWhen you try to connect to an instance of the Remote Debugging Monitor in Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, you may receive an error message that resembles the following: Unable to connect to the Microsoft Visual Studio Remote Debugging Monitor named MonitorName. The Visual Studio debugger cannot connect to the remote computer. An RPC policy is enabled on the local computer that prevents remote debugging. Please see Help for assistance. CAUSEThis problem occurs because a remote procedure call (RPC) policy that prevents debugging is enabled on the local computer. Note The RestrictRemoteClients registry key is a new addition for the RPC service in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). This problem occurs when you enable the RPC service on the local computer that is running Windows XP SP2.WORKAROUNDWarning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk. To work around this problem, follow these steps:
