The Notes field is empty for some exported tasks in Outlook 2003

SYMPTOMS

When you export tasks from Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, the Notes field for some of the exported tasks is empty.

CAUSE

This issue occurs when the Notes field for a task has too many characters. The maximum number of characters depends on the font type that was used in the Notes field. The following is a list of the maximum number of characters that you can use for a particular font in the Notes field:
  • For Unicode fonts, the maximum number of characters is 4,086 characters.
  • For ANSI fonts, the maximum number of characters is 8,180 characters.

How to obtain the hotfix

This issue is fixed in the Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 Hotfix Package that is dated June 6, 2006. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Note: After you install the hotfix, you can use the following maximum numbers of characters in the Notes field:
  • For Unicode fonts, the maximum number of characters is 131,072 characters.
  • For ANSI fonts, the maximum number of characters is 262,144 characters.
