Depending on the version of Microsoft Windows Services for UNIX that you are trying to install, you may receive an error similar to the following when you try to install Windows Services for UNIX on a computer that is running a 64-bit operating system:
Cannot install on a 64 bit machine
Windows Services for UNIX is not supported on 64-bit operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.
You can run Windows Services for UNIX on x64 hardware if you are using a 32-bit operating system.
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Release 2 (R2) includes Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications (SUA). We suggest that you have both SUA and Software Development Kit (SDK) for SUA installed because SDK for SUA provides an environment that resembles UNIX. Additionally, SUA and SDK for SUA are only for 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems. No SUA or SDK for SUA exists for the Itanium-based operating system.
