The User Name Mapping service in Windows Services for UNIX cannot map the "LOCAL SYSTEM" account to UNIX user accounts

When you use the User Name Mapping service in Microsoft Windows Services for UNIX, the service cannot map special accounts, such as the LOCAL SYSTEM account, to UNIX user accounts.

This issue occurs because of a limitation in the User Name Mapping service.

All Network File System (NFS) clients are required to provide UNIX_AUTH credentials in the clients' requests to mount. Windows Services for UNIX uses the User Name Mapping service to gather the information about the credentials based on the account that makes the request.

Gateway for NFS runs by using the LOCAL SYSTEM account. Because the User Name Mapping service cannot map the LOCAL SYSTEM account to UNIX user accounts, all Gateway for NFS mounts are performed by anonymous users. Therefore, anonymous users must have access to any NFS shares that you want to expose.

Note All mappings for standard Windows users work as expected with Gateway for NFS.
