SYMPTOMS

You receive a non-delivery report (NDR) when you try to send an e-mail message to an e-mail address that starts with an apostrophe in Microsoft Exchange Server 2003.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if all the following conditions are true:
You send the message by using Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV).
The recipient's e-mail address starts with an apostrophe.
The apostrophe is removed when the message is processed.
In this scenario, the e-mail address is incorrect when the message reaches the recipient's e-mail server because the address does not contain the apostrophe.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, do not use e-mail addresses that start with an apostrophe to send e-mail by using WebDAV.
