FIX: BizTalk Adapter for Oracle Database modifies the data in the DateTime field when you use the Insert method, the Update method, or the Query method

Microsoft BizTalk Adapter for Oracle Database modifies the data in the DateTime field when you insert data into an Oracle database or retrieve data from an Oracle database. This problem occurs when you use the Insert method, the Update method, or the Query method to insert data into an Oracle database or to retrieve data from an Oracle database.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

You must create a registry key to enable this hotfix. For more information, see the "More Information" section.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

File information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.Note Because of file dependencies, the most recent hotfix that contains these files may also contain additional files.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

Before you apply this hotfix, BizTalk Adapter for Oracle Database modifies the data in the DateTime field as follows:

• When you use the Input method or the Update method, BizTalk Adapter for Oracle Database assumes that the data in the DateTime field in a message is in Coordinated Universal Time (Greenwich Mean Time). When BizTalk Adapter for Oracle Database processes the message, BizTalk Adapter for Oracle Database converts the data to the local time for the server that is running Microsoft BizTalk Server. Then, BizTalk Adapter for Oracle Database inserts the data or updates the data in the Oracle database.
  
  For example, the data in the DateTime field is 2005-05-05T00:00:00. BizTalk Adapter for Oracle Database is running on a server in the Pacific Time zone during daylight saving time. Therefore, BizTalk Adapter for Oracle Database converts the data in the DateTime field to 2005-05-04T17:00:00.
• When you use the Query method to retrieve data from an Oracle database, BizTalk Adapter for Oracle Database assumes that the data in the DateTime field is in the local time for the local server that is running BizTalk Server. BizTalk Adapter for Oracle Database converts the data to Coordinated Universal Time and then sends the message to BizTalk Server.
  
  For example, the data in the DateTime field in the Oracle database is 2005-05-04T17:00:00. BizTalk Adapter for Oracle Database that is running on a server in the Pacific Time zone during daylight saving time returns 2005-05-05T00:00:00. In the same example, BizTalk Adapter for Oracle Database that is running on a server in the Eastern Time zone during daylight saving time returns 2005-05-04T21:00:00.

To prevent BizTalk Adapter for Oracle Database from modifying the data in the DateTime field, you must apply this hotfix. Additionally, you must create a registry key to enable this hotfix. To create the registry key, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate the appropriate registry key, depending on the system:
   • On a 32-bit server, locate the following registry key:
     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ Microsoft\BizTalkAdapters\Config\Global\Adapters\OracleDB
   • On a 64-bit server, locate the following registry key:
     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\BizTalkAdapters\Config\Global\Adapters\OracleDB
3. Right-click the registry key that you located in step 2, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4. Type LocalTimes, and then press ENTER.
5. Right-click LocalTimes, and then click Modify.
6. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
   
   Note If you type a value other than 0, BizTalk Adapter for Oracle Database modifies the data in the DateTime field.
7. Exit Registry Editor.
