Some Systems Management Server 2003 wizards may not work correctly when you include a join statement in an SMS query

Consider the following scenario. You perform a query in the Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003 (SMS) Administrator console. Then, you right-click a client computer in the results pane, and then click Install Client. In this scenario, the Client Push Installation Wizard does not appear. Additionally, other wizards such as Distribute Software and Distribute Software Updates may no longer function.

When you close the SMS Administrator console, you receive an error message that resembles the following:

This issue occurs when you change an existing query in SMS 2003 to include an attribute class that causes a join in the query statement, such as the All Systems query. For example, you edit the All Systems query statement and add an attribute class such as Workstation Status, and then you add an attribute such as Last Hardware Scan. In this case, the query statement now includes a join statement. This may prevent the Client Push Installation Wizard and other wizards from appearing.

To resolve this issue, you can create a collection that is based on the query that includes the join statement. Then, you can use the Client Push Installation Wizard on client computers that reside in the new collection. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Systems Management Server, and then click SMS Administrator Console.
2. Expand Site Database(SiteCide-SiteName), and then expand Collections.
3. Right-click Collections, point to New, and then click Collection.
4. In the Collection Properties dialog box, type a name in the Name box.
5. Click the Membership Rules tab, and then click the Query Rule Properties icon.
6. In the Query Rule Properties dialog box, type a name in the Name box, and then click Import Query Statement.
7. In the Browse Query dialog box, select the query that you want, click OK, and then click OK two more times.
8. Right-click the new collection, point to All Tasks, and then click Update Collection Membership.
9. When the collection has been updated, right-click the client computer in the results pane, point to All Tasks, and then click Install Client.
