After you install Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 and then
restart the host, the Virtual Server service (Vssrvc.exe)
does not start. Additionally, an error message reports that a dependency is
marked for deletion.
This problem occurs if one of the following conditions is
true:
| • | The account under which the Virtual Server service
runs has been changed. The Virtual Server service now runs under
an account other than the
Network Service
account. |
| • | The Network Service account has been given excessive permissions.
For
example, the
Network Service account has
been added to the Administrators group.
Note When
the Network Service account is added to the Administrators group, this defeats
the purpose of limited-permission accounts such as
Network Service and Local Service. |
| • | The
Network Service
account has been granted the Load and unload
device drivers permission in the Local Security Policy MMC
snap-in. |
To work around this problem, do not change the account under
which the Virtual Server service runs.
