SYMPTOMS

You may experience one of the following problems on a server that is set to the Turkish locale:
  • You set the locale of a SharePoint site to Turkish. When you try to edit the permissions of a document library in the site, you receive the following error message:
Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object.
  • A server is running the Turkish version of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. When you try to upload an administrator-approved form template to the server, the upload process fails.
  • When you try to import a Business Data Catalog (BDC) application definition file into SharePoint, you may receive the following error:
An error occurred while retrieving data from data_source_work_instance. Administrators, see the server log for more information.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because SharePoint Server 2007 and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 misinterpret the uppercase and lowercase letter "i" in the Turkish language. Turkish has two versions of the letter "i," a version of the letter "i" that is dotted and a version of the letter "i" that is not dotted. In Turkish, the uppercase version of the letter "i" that is dotted is an uppercase "I" that is dotted.
