INTRODUCTION

This article describes the Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 issue that is fixed in the Outlook 2003 post-Service Pack 2 hotfix package that is dated July 27, 2006.

Issue that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • When multiple threads call IMailUser::GetProps to retrieve the PR_DISPLAY_NAME property of a recipient whose display name contains DBCS characters, the first thread returns the full display name correctly. However, subsequent threads return only the simple display name or the e-mail alias of the recipient.

This issue occurs only if the PR_DISPLAY_NAME property for a user is retrieved when the following conditions are true:
    • The application is a multithreaded application.
    • Each thread in the application has performed the following actions:
      • Initialized MAPI
      • Created an Outlook profile (this profile is deleted at the end of the session)
      • Logged on to the user’s mailbox
      • Opened a message in the mailbox
      • Retrieved the recipient list for the opened message
      • Opened the address book
      • Retrieved the IMailUser object for the recipient
      • Retrieved the PR_DISPLAY_NAME property of the recipient in the list by calling IMailUser::GetProps
      • Released the MAPI session
      • Uninitialized MAPI
    • The recipient’s display name contains DBCS characters.
