Issue that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

•

On August 1, 2006, the new German Spelling Reform rules go into effect for Germany, Switzerland and Austria. These rules were proposed by the Council for German Orthography on August 1, 2005, were adopted by the Standing Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK) on March 2, 2006, and were confirmed by the Council of Minister Presidents on March 30, 2006. In compliance with these new rules, a new German spelling checker for Microsoft Office XP was created and is available for download from Microsoft. This update contains a new German spelling checker lexicon that is in compliance with the new German Spelling Reform rules.

Hotfix download information

Note Three versions of the Office XP Proofing Tools post-Service Pack 3 hotfix package for the German edition of Proofing Tools are available. The version you must install depends on how the German edition of Proofing Tools was installed. The German edition of Proofing Tools can be installed with the following products:

•	The German localized version of Microsoft Office 2003
•	Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 with Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI) or Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003 with MUI Pack.
•	The Office 2003 Editions Proofing Tools CD

You must first determine from which source the German edition of Proofing Tools was installed.Then, you apply the appropriate hotfix package.

Client Update (Single Computer)

The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:
Download the OfficeXP-KB923347-DEU.exe package now. (http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/6/f/96f4549f-e687-435a-8ebb-0f72f60d546f/officexp-kb923347-deu.exe)

Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.

To download the client update, follow these steps:

1.	Click Save to save the OfficeXP-KB923347-DEU.exe file to the selected folder.
2.	In Microsoft Windows Explorer, double-click OfficeXP-KB923347-DEU.exe.
3.	Click Yes to accept the License Agreement.
4.	In the Type the location where you want to place the extracted files box, type c:\923347, and then click OK.
5.	Click Yes when you are prompted to create the folder.

Install the client update for the German localized version of Microsoft Office 2003

1.	In Windows Explorer, locate the C:\923347 folder, and then double-click Mssp3ge.msp.
2.	Follow the steps to install the update.

Note After you install the update, you cannot remove it. To revert to a previous installation that does not include the update, you must remove Office XP Proofing Tools and the Office XP MUI Pack. Then, install Office XP Proofing Tools and the Office XP MUI Pack again from the original CD.

Install the client update for Office Professional Edition 2003 with MUI Pack or Office Standard Edition 2003 with MUI Pack

1.	In Windows Explorer, locate the C:\923347 folder, and then double-click Gerlpk.msp.
2.	Follow the steps to install the update.

Note After you install the update, you cannot remove it. To revert to a previous installation that does not include the update, you must remove Office XP Proofing Tools and the Office XP MUI Pack. Then, install Office XP Proofing Tools and the Office XP MUI Pack again from the original CD.

Administrative Update

The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:

If you installed Office XP Proofing Tools and the Office XP MUI Pack from a server location, the server administrator must update the server location with the administrative public update. The administrator must then deploy that update to your computer.

If you are the server administrator, follow these steps:

1.	Click Save to save the OfficeXP-KB923347-DEU.exe file to the selected folder.
2.	In Windows Explorer, double-click OfficeXP-KB923347-DEU.exe.
3.	Click Yes to accept the License Agreement.
4.	In the Type the location where you want to place the extracted files box, type c:\923347, and then click OK.
5.	Click Yes when you are prompted to create the folder.

Install the administrative update for the German localized version of Office 2003

1.	In Windows Explorer, locate the c:\923347 folder, and then double-click Mssp3ge_Readme.txt.
2.	Follow the steps in the "Mssp3ge_Readme.txt" file to install and to deploy the hotfix.

Install the administrative update for Office Professional Edition 2003 with MUI Pack or Office Standard Edition 2003 with MUI Pack

1.	In Windows Explorer, locate the c:\923347 folder, and then double-click Gerlpk_Readme.txt.
2.	Follow the steps in the "Gerlpk_Readme.txt" file to install and to deploy the hotfix.

You do not have to restart your computer after you apply this hotfix.

This hotfix is not replaced by any later hotfix.

To use one of the hotfixes in this package, you do not have to make any changes to the registry.

This hotfix may not contain all the files that you must have to fully update a product to the latest build. This hotfix contains only the files that you must have to correct the issues that are listed in this article.

The global version of this hotfix uses a Microsoft Windows Installer package to install the hotfix. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) in the following table. When you view the file information, the date is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.
