Article ID: 923594 - Last Review: October 15, 2007 - Revision: 1.5 Information about how Web pages are saved in Publisher 2007INTRODUCTIONIn Microsoft Publisher 2002 and in Microsoft Office Publisher 2003, the Save As dialog box included the Web Page (*.htm; *.html) option.
In Microsoft Office Publisher 2007, the Web Page (*.htm; *.html) option has been changed to Web Page, Filtered. MORE INFORMATION"Round tripping" is the ability to save a Publisher file (*.pub) as a Web page (*.htm) and then reopen the Web page as a Publisher file without losing any Publisher features that are not directly supported by HTML. Publisher 2002 and Publisher 2003 support round tripping when Web pages are saved without the filtered option. The Publisher-specific markup increases both the HTML file size and the time that is required to load a Web site. When you either save a Publisher file as a filtered Web page or publish a Web site to the Web by using the Publish to the Web command on the File menu, Publisher converts the Publisher file (.pub) into smaller filtered HTML files. These smaller HTML files can be published to the Web more quickly. You cannot edit a Web page in Publisher when the Web page is saved as filtered HTML. To edit a Web page in Publisher, save a copy of the Web site as a .pub file to the local computer. To change the published Web site, edit the original .pub file in Publisher. Then, republish the Web site.
