You install the Internet Explorer cumulative security update that is documented in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 918899. In this scenario, Internet Explorer unexpectedly exits when you view a Web site that uses the HTTP 1.1 protocol and compression. You may also receive the following error message: Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, install the new security update 918899 (MS06-042) that was released on August 24, 2006. This new security update addresses the problem that this article describes for customers who use Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1. Only customers who use Internet Explorer 6 SP1 are affected. All other customers should continue their deployments of the original security update 918899.
