When you do this, Word 2003 starts, and Word 2003 startup macros run two times. The macros create duplicate toolbar buttons or other effects as the document opens. This problem also occurs when you open the document by using a command-line command such as winword.exe filename.doc. CAUSEThis problem occurs when the document that you open is based on a template that is based on another template or document in the Word 2003 Startup folder.
