Symptoms

Consider the following scenario. You create a Pivot Diagram drawing in Microsoft Office Visio 2007. You open this drawing in Microsoft Office Visio 2003. Then, you try to delete a drawing component, such as the "Pivot Title" component or the "Pivot Info" component. In this scenario, the component is not deleted. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

Shape protection and/or layer properties prevent complete execution of this command.

Cause

This behavior occurs because the From deletion protection property is applied to some components in a Visio 2007 Pivot Diagram drawing.

Workaround

To work around this behavior, remove the From deletion protection property when you try to delete a protected component. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Open the drawing in Visio 2003.

  2. Right-click the component, point to Format, and then click Protection.

  3. Click to clear the From deletion check box.

  4. Click OK to close the Protection dialog box.

Important If you delete any of the shapes of the Pivot Diagram drawing in Microsoft Office Visio 2003, the drawing may not function as expected in Visio 2007. For example, if you try to expand the nodes of the Pivot Diagram drawing, you receive the following error message:

Visio could not perform the selected action because the current PivotDiagram is not valid.
