Error message when you try to set password protection for a OneNote 2007 notebook section: "You cannot set, change, or remove password protection for this section because it has not been completely synchronized"

You try to set password protection for a section of a Microsoft Office OneNote 2007 notebook. When you do this, you may receive the following error message:

This issue occurs if the notebook has been shared, and if the section for which you want to set password protection has pages that were not synchronized with the shared copy.

Typically, this issue occurs if each section in a notebook contains over 30 pages. If any of these pages do not synchronize, the pages will display the following items:

• A gray background
• A warning icon or an information icon
• An error message that resembles one of the following error messages:
  This page was not cached and is not accessible offline
  This page is not yet available. Click here or press ENTER to remove this message. This page was added from another computer. It will become available if that computer reconnects and syncs.
  This page is not yet fully synced. This will be resolved the next time you sync. If this page was added or deleted by another computer that didn’t fully sync, it will be resolved after that computer syncs.

These messages are displayed when the network connection was lost during synchronization. This may have occurred either on the local computer or on another networked computer that tried to synchronize the same pages to the shared copy.

To work around this issue, you can delete the pages that are not synchronized with the shared notebook. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Locate the page that did not synchronize with the shared notebook.
2. Right-click the page tab, and then click Delete.

OneNote 2007 can then synchronize the notebook. The user who was unable to synchronize changes can now have the changes synchronized. Additionally, these pages will be restored in the notebook section.
