FIX: You cannot use SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition on Windows CE .NET 4.2-based devices

You cannot use Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition on Microsoft Windows CE .NET 4.2-based devices.

This problem occurs because SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition is not supported on Windows CE .NET 4.2-based devices. However, SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition is supported on Microsoft Windows Mobile-based Pocket PCs.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

This hotfix extends the support of SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition on Windows CE .NET 4.2-based devices. Additionally, this hotfix provides SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition CAB files that you can use on Windows CE .NET 4.2-based devices.
