Error message when you try to save a file to a CD-RW or to a DVD/CD-RW in a 2007 Office program: “This application does not support saving files to writable discs”

SYMPTOMS

In a 2007 Microsoft Office program, when you try to save a file to a CD-RW or to a DVD/CD-RW, you receive the following error message:
This application does not support saving files to writable discs. Save the file on your computer and use Microsoft Windows Explorer to copy the file to the disc. For more information on copying files to discs please check Windows Help.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because you cannot write directly to an RW disc when you are using a 2007 Office program.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, save the file on the hard disk drive. Then, copy the file to the CD-RW or to the DVD/CD-RW.
