Error message when you drag a slide from a PowerPoint 2007 presentation to a Word 2007 document: "Word has encountered a problem"

SYMPTOMS

When you try to drag a Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 slide from a presentation to a Microsoft Office Word 2007 document, the slide does not appear in the Word 2007 document. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
Word has encountered a problem.
When you try to drag a PowerPoint 2007 slide from a presentation to a Microsoft Office Publisher 2007 publication, the slide does not appear in the Publisher 2007 publication. You do not receive an error message. Additionally, the slide that you tried to drag to the Publisher 2007 publication disappears from the PowerPoint 2007 presentation.

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Publish only the slide that you want to use

To publish a single slide, follow these steps:
1.Open the PowerPoint 2007 presentation that contains the slide you want to use in Word 2007 or in Publisher 2007.
2.In the Slide pane, locate the slide that you want to use.
3.Right-click the slide, and then click Publish Slides.
4.Click Browse, locate a folder to which you want to publish the slide, and then click Select.
5.Click Publish. A one-slide presentation is created.
6.Exit PowerPoint. Then, open the folder to which you saved the one-slide presentation in step 5.
7.Open the Word 2007 or Publisher 2007 document into which you want to insert the slide.
8.Locate the page on which you want the slide to appear.
9.Drag the one-slide presentation from the folder that contains the one-slide presentation to the page.

Method 2: Export the slide as a picture

To export a single slide as a picture, follow these steps:
1.Open the PowerPoint 2007 presentation that contains the slide you want to use in Word 2007 or in Publisher 2007.
2.In the Slide pane, click the slide that you want to use.
3.Click the Microsoft Office Button, point to Save As, and then click Other Formats.
4.In the Save as type list, click a picture format.
For the best image fidelity, click PNG Portable Network Graphics Format (*.png).
For a smaller file, click JPEG Interchange File Format (*.jpg).
5.Click Save, and then click Current Slide Only.
6.Exit PowerPoint. Then, open the Word 2007 or Publisher 2007 document into which you want to insert the slide picture.
7.Locate the page on which you want the slide picture to appear.
8.On the Insert tab, click Picture in the Illustrations group.
9.Locate the slide picture file that you saved in step 5, click the file, and then click Insert.
