Communicator 2005 does not start on a Windows 2000-based computer

You install Microsoft Office Communicator 2005 on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer without error. However, Communicator 2005 does not start and may not be available on the computer.

This problem occurs when the computer is running Windows Installer 2.0 or an earlier version of Windows Installer. The Communicator 2005 Setup program requires Windows Installer 3.0 or a later version of Windows Installer.

How to obtain the hotfix package

This issue is fixed in the Communicator 2005 hotfix package that is dated October 19, 2006.
