You cannot use your cellular telephone to establish an Internet connection by using dial-up networking on a computer that is running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

Consider the following scenario. You attach a cellular telephone to a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 by using a USB cable. However, you cannot establish an Internet connection by using dial-up networking.

Additionally, if you unplug and then plug in the USB cable into the cellular telephone, the problem persists. In this scenario, you may also experience the following symptoms:

• You cannot access your cellular telephone memory card.
• You cannot synchronize cellular telephone contacts and calendars with the computer.

This problem occurs because the caller ID feature in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 uses the same communications (COM) port that is assigned to the modem. This is also the same COM port that the cellular telephone uses through the USB cable. The, when you unplug the USB cable from the cellular telephone, the USB device drivers are not correctly uninstalled. Therefore, the modem driver, the ports, and the removable storage devices are not initialized when you reconnect the USB cable.

2. Under Show notification for, select None, and then click Save.
