INTRODUCTION

This article describes the free hard disk space that is required when you install Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) on a computer that is already running Windows Server 2003.

The following table lists the free hard disk space requirements for Windows Server 2003 SP2.

*Maximum service pack size includes the size of service pack files and the size of %Windir%\Servicepackfiles folder, this could vary across architectures.
**Maximum working space is the virtual space required to run the installer.
***Peak usage includes virtual space used by service pack, temporary files, temporary folders and the backup folder used for uninstall.

The first primary system partition is the disk volume that contains the hardware-specific files that are required to start Windows. For example, the primary system partition contains the Ntldr file, the Boot.ini file, and the Ntdetect.com file. Also, you must have 30 megabytes (MB) of free hard disk space on the first primary system partition.
