SYMPTOMS

When you run a script on a Web page in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, you may receive the following script error message:

Permission Denied

This problem occurs if the script accesses the window.closed property after the browser window closes.

This problem occurs after you apply security update MS06-042 on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer or on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer.

Security update information

To resolve this problem, install the most current cumulative security update for Internet Explorer. To install the most current updates, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem on a Windows Server 2003-based computer, implement an exception handler such as a try-catch block when you access the window.closed property. If an exception is thrown, the window has been closed, and Internet Explorer handles the exception.

For example, use code that resembles the following code example.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2.
