Symptoms

You create a Microsoft Office Word 2007 document that contains macros. When you try to save this document to an Open Document Management API (ODMA) server, you receive the following error message:

The following cannot be saved in a macro-free document:

. VBA Project

To save a file with these features, click No to return to the Save As dialog, and then choose a macro-enabled file type in the File Type drop-down.

Continue saving as a macro-free document?

If you click Yes in this message, the macros will be lost. If you click No, you are returned to the ODMA Save dialog box. However, in this dialog box, you cannot change the file type to save the document together with the macros.

Cause

This issue occurs because the ODMA Save dialog box does not provide options to change the file type when you are saving a 2007 Microsoft Office document.

Workaround

To work around this issue, change the default file type for saved Word 2007 documents to a macro-enabled file type. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Start Word 2007.

  2. Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Word Options.

  3. In the left pane, click Save.

  4. In the Save files in this format list, click Word Macro-Enabled Document (*.docm), and then click OK.

After you perform this workaround, a document that contains macros will be saved as a macro-enabled document on an ODMA server.
