SYMPTOMS

When you convert data from the varbinary(max) data type to the XML data type in Microsoft SQL Server 2005, you receive the following message:
Msg 6322, Level 16, State 1, Line 2
Too many attributes or namespace definitions
This issue occurs when you convert the data either explicitly or in an update statement. Additionally, you may experience this problem when you perform the conversion in a BULK INSERT statement.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the SQL Server engine leaks memory when SQL Server parses an empty tag, such as "<a/>."
