Error message when you try to add a new item value to a linked table in Access 2007: "Invalid argument"

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You create a new database in Microsoft Office Access 2007. You click External Data, click Access, and then import another database. When you import the database, you select the Link to the data source by creating a linked table option.

In this scenario, you open the linked table in the imported database, and then try to add a new item value in the Edit List Items dialog box. When you do this, you receive the following error message:
Invalid argument

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
