SYMPTOMS
After you upgrade to Windows Vista, you cannot use a fingerprint reader or another biometric device to log on. CAUSE
This issue occurs because Windows Vista does not support the Graphical Identification and Authentication (GINA) components that the device requires. RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, log on by using the keyboard to enter a user name and password. Note If you do not remember the password, you may have to reinstall Windows Vista by using a clean installation that prompts you to create a new account and password. After you log on, install drivers for the device that are compatible with Windows Vista. Contact the manufacturer of the biometric device to find out if these drivers are available.
