FIX: Many query notifications are sent to the data warehouse when proactive caching is enabled in SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services

Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2005 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2005 fix release.

SYMPTOMS

When proactive caching is enabled in Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services, you may notice that many query notifications are sent to the data warehouse. More query notifications are sent when more partitions have proactive caching enabled. Typically, this problem occurs during service startup. During this period, you cannot connect to the service.

RESOLUTION

Service pack information

Prerequisites

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1

Set a different refresh interval for each partition.

Method 2

Create several data source objects that use the same connection string. Then, link each partition to a different data source object.

Note You can have fewer data sources than partitions.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2.
