INTRODUCTION

Sometimes, your Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel may not work correctly. This article describes several things that you can try if this happens.

SYMPTOMS

When you use your Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel, the wireless racing wheel or force feedback mechanism doesn't work.

CAUSE

This issue may occur for several reasons. For suggestions about how to resolve issues with the wireless racing wheel, see the appropriate section in the "What To Try" section.

THINGS TO TRY

You cannot connect your wireless racing wheel to your console

Turn on your wireless racing wheel. To do this, press the Xbox Guide button or the Start button. Then, connect your wireless racing wheel to your console. If the Ring of Light (RoL) spins longer than 15 seconds after you connect your wireless racing wheel to your console, follow these guidelines:
  • Position your wireless racing wheel close to your console.
  • Make sure that the AC power cord is firmly connected. If you use batteries, make sure that the batteries are new or have a strong charge.
  • Make sure your console and wireless racing wheel are at least three feet away from large metal objects, such as file cabinets or refrigerators.
  • Remove decorations from your console and wireless racing wheel, and then try to connect again. Metallic decorations, stickers, or faceplates on your console or wireless racing wheel may cause problems.
  • Make sure that the front of your console is pointed toward your wireless racing wheel and away from nearby walls.
  • 2.4 gigahertz (GHz) cordless telephones, wireless LANs, wireless video transmitters, microwave ovens, some mobile phones or cell phones, and Bluetooth headsets can interfere with your wireless steering wheel. Turn off or unplug the other devices, and then try to use the steering wheel again.
  • If you use batteries and these steps do not resolve the issue, turn off your console. Remove and then insert fresh AA batteries or reinsert the Xbox 360 Rechargeable Battery Pack in your wireless racing wheel, and then reconnect the wireless racing wheel.

The force feedback mechanism doesn't work

Some games may not support force feedback. Check the options of the game, and make sure that the wireless racing wheel or force feedback feature is set up correctly. For more information about a specific game, see the user manual for the game.

If the game supports force feedback, make sure that the Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel is connected to the AC power supply correctly.

To test the AC power supply, follow these steps:
  1. Carefully remove the AA battery pack from your Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel.
  2. Connect the power supply cord to the power input on the back of your wireless racing wheel. When the cord is fully inserted, you will feel the cord stop. Connect the AC power cord to the power supply. When the cord is fully inserted, you will feel the cord stop. Connect the power cord to a standard wall outlet.
  3. Press and hold down the Xbox Guide button or the Start button until the wireless racing wheel turns on.
Note You may have already received all the necessary software to operate your Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel. If your console is connected to Xbox LIVE or if you are playing a game that was released after January 1, 2007, your console has been automatically updated.

Your wireless racing wheel does not turn on

  1. Replace the batteries.

Note If you are using AA (LR6) batteries with the AC power supply connected to your wireless racing wheel, remove the AA battery pack and try again. If your wireless racing wheel now turns on, the AA batteries may be defective. Replace the AA batteries.
  2. Check your power supply:
    • Make sure that all the cables are correctly and firmly connected.
    • Try connecting the AC power cord to a different AC outlet.
