SYMPTOMS

When you use Windows Update to download and install an update in Windows Vista, the update may not appear in Installed Updates in the Programs and Features item in Control Panel. For example, the following updates do not appear in the Programs and Features item:
  • Plug and Play drivers
  • Windows Defender definitions

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Programs and Features item in Control Panel only displays updates to Windows Vista.
