A USB drive may not appear in the Windows Connect Now Flash Configuration feature of Windows Vista

A USB drive may not appear in the Windows Connect Now (WCN) Flash Configuration feature of Windows Vista when you click I have a USB thumb drive and then save the network settings. This behavior occurs if the USB drive uses the NTFS file system format.

To eliminate drives that are not USB flash drives, Windows Vista does not list NTFS format drives. This is because some USB flash drives identify themselves as fixed disks. An access control list issue is also associated with using NTFS format drives. Therefore, you may not have permission to write to the root directory of a NTFS format drive.

To work around this problem for Windows Connect Now, use a device that uses the FAT file system format.

This behavior is by design.
