SYMPTOMS

When you insert a label in a document that you have created and then saved in a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 document library, the following symptoms occur:
  • Some characters do not appear in the Label field in the document.
  • Some characters do not appear in the Label field on the Document Properties page in the document library.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when the Name field and the Code field under Organization on the Users and Organizations page contain one or more of the following special characters.

Note These special characters are not supported in the Label format field.
  • <
  • >
  • &
  • "
This behavior also occurs when you add a new custom label that contains these special characters. When you add the custom label to the Label format field on the Edit Policy: Document for Group Approval page, some characters do not appear in the Label field.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, you must remove the special characters in the Name field and in the Code field under Organization on the Users and Organizations page. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On your Office SharePoint Server 2007 home page, click Site Actions, point to Site Settings, and then click Modify All Site Settings.
  2. Under Group Approval Administration on the Site Settings page, click Users and Organizations.
  3. On the Users and Organizations page, make sure that the Name field and the Code field do not contain any of the special characters that are listed in the "Cause" section. Then, click OK.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
