Consider the following scenario. You successfully install and activate Microsoft Flight Simulator X. You remove the game from the computer. If you try to reinstall the game, the game does not install and you receive a 1722 error message.
Note The 1722 error message is a general installer error message that states that a system level failure has occurred. In most cases, you experience a setup failure in the Setup program that is associated with registering fonts. In this case, you will receive another error message that is followed by a 1605 installer error message.

How to obtain Microsoft support files from online services

To obtain and run the Software Licensing System Reset Tool, use one of the following methods.
Method 1: Microsoft Windows XP
- Click the Download the Software Licensing System Reset Tool package now link to start the
download. Or, click the following
link:
- When you receive the File Download dialog box, click Save. Save the file to the desktop.
- When the download is complete, double-click the MSKB928080 file on the desktop. In the
Security Warning dialog box, click Run, and then click Yes to accept the license agreement.
- Click Unzip. When you receive the "2 Files unzipped successfully" message, click OK, and
then click Close.
- Click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK.
- Type cd\ at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.
- Type cd MicrosoftKB928080 at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.
- Type resetsldl –all at the command prompt, and then press ENTER. Make sure that
there is a space between "resetsldl" and "–all."
- After you receive the "Re-creating clean trusted store. Success" message, close the
Command Prompt window.
- Restart the computer, and then try to install Flight Simulator.
Method 2: Windows Vista
- Click the Download the Software Licensing System Reset Tool package now link to start the download.
- When you receive the File Download dialog box, click Save.
- In the Save As dialog box, click Save.
- When the download is complete, click Close.
- In Windows Explorer, locate the following folder:
C:\Users\username\Downloads
Note The placeholder username is the user name that you use to log on to the computer. - Double-click the MSKB928080.exe file.
- When you are prompted to accept the license agreement, click Yes.
- Extract the files to the following folder:
C:\MicrosoftKB928080
Note If you receive the Open File - Security Warning dialog box, click Run. - Run the Software Licensing System Reset Tool.

, click All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Command Prompt. At the command prompt, type C:\MicrosoftKB928080\C:\MicrosoftKB928080\resetsldl –All in the Open box, and then click OK.
If you receive a filename error message, a location error message, or a syntax error message, follow these steps:
- At the command prompt, type cd C:\ to change the location to drive C.
- Type cd MicrosoftKB928080.
- Type dir for the directory listing.
- Type resetsldl -All, and then press ENTER.
You will now be prompted for the licence reset.
