SUMMARY

If you use Microsoft QuickBasic Compiler for the Apple Macintosh, versions 1.0 or 1.0e on the new Apple Macintosh Quadra 700 or Quadra 900, you must set the Cache Switch Control Panel to the More Compatible (Caches Disabled) option to ensure that no compatibility problems exist. You must also set the Memory Control Panel to 32-bit addressing off.

The following steps will set the necessary options described above:

  1. From the Apple menu, choose Control Panel.
  2. Select the Cache Switch panel.
  3. Choose the More Compatible (Caches Disabled) option.
  4. Close the Cache Switch panel.
  5. Select the Memory Panel.
  6. Choose 32-bit addressing off.
  7. Close the Memory Panel.
  8. Close the Control Panel.
  9. From the Special Menu, choose Restart.
Note: To have this Control Panel installed, the Macintosh must be running Apple System 7.0.1.

If the Cache Switch is not available in the Control Panel's folder, use the following procedure to copy the Cache Switch Control Panel to the System Folder from the Tidbits System Disk:

  1. Insert the Tidbits System Disk.
  2. Drag the Cache Switch into the System Folder of the Quadra.
  3. You will see a message of "Control panels need to be stored in the Control Panel's folder or they may not work properly. Put 'Cache Switch' into the Control Panel's folder."
  4. Choose the OK button.
  5. From the Apple menu, choose Control Panels. Double-click on Cache Switch. Select More Compatible.
  6. From the Special menu, choose Restart.
The Cache Switch is only installed by the installer when doing a custom installation for a Quadra; many dealers do a default install instead.
