Consider the following scenario.
- You use an existing site template to create a new site collection in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.
- The site template is associated with a workflow.
- You move the site template to the top-level site template gallery.
- You try to create another new site collection by using the site template in the top-level site template gallery.
- The user account that you use when you try create the second new site collection is not the same account that is used by the application pool identity.
In this scenario, you receive the following error message:
The template you have selected is invalid or cannot be found
To resolve this problem, create a policy that grants Full Control permissions to the user account that you want to use to create the second new site collection. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration.
- On the Central Administration page, click Site Actions, and then click Site Settings.
- Under Galleries on the Site Settings page, click Site templates.
- On the Site Template Gallery page, click Settings, and then click Gallery Settings.
- Under Permissions and Management on the Customize Site Template Gallery page, click Permissions for this gallery.
- On the Permissions: Site Template Gallery page, click New, and then click Add Users.
- In the Users/Groups box on the Add Users: Site Template Gallery page, type the name of the user whom you want to add. In the Give Permission section, click to select the Full Control check box, select any additional options that you want, and then click OK.
