The "Operation in Progress" message remains visible after the page is loaded when you try to use Excel Web Access in Internet Explorer to view an Excel 2007 workbook

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use Microsoft Office Excel Web Access in Windows Internet Explorer to view a Microsoft Office Excel 2007 workbook, the following message remains visible after the page is loaded:
Operation in Progress
Additionally, when you click Cancel to stop the page from loading, the page does not change.

Note When this problem occurs, no other message is displayed.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because scripting is disabled in Internet Explorer.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, enable scripting in Internet Explorer. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. In the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Security tab.
  4. Under Security level for this zone, drag the slider bar to select a reduced security setting, and then click OK.

    Note If you do not see the slider bar, click Default Level.
If the problem persists, make sure that scripting is enabled. To do this in Internet Explorer, follow these steps:

Note Microsoft does not provide steps to work around this problem in third-party browsers.
  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. In the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Security tab, and then click Custom Level.
  4. In the Security Settings dialog box, scroll to the Scripting section, and then click Enable under Active Scripting.
  5. Click OK.
