SYMPTOMSAfter you log on to Windows Vista by using the Guest account, the network icon in the notification area indicates that the network is either disabled or disconnected. Additionally, you may receive the following error message: Connection status: unknown. The service to detect this status is turned off. Note This problem occurs even if the network is connected and is working correctly. CAUSEThis problem occurs only when you use the Guest account. Specifically, Windows Vista cannot determine whether the network connection is working when you use the Guest account.
