A "Placeholder for menu items to be added to Office 11" item is displayed when you right-click an item in a PivotTable in Excel 2007

SYMPTOMS

You install the original release version of Microsoft Office Excel 2007. When you right-click an item in a PivotTable, the following item is displayed:
Placeholder for menu items to be added to Office 11

CAUSE

This issue may occur if you had a prerelease version of Excel 2007 installed on the computer before you installed the original release version of Excel 2007.

Note This issue does not occur if you upgrade from an earlier version of Microsoft Excel to Excel 2007.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Exit Excel 2007.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Office/12.0/Excel/Options
  4. Right-click CommandBars, and then click Delete.
  5. Click Yes when you receive the following message:
    Are you sure you want to delete this value?
  6. On the File menu, click Exit to exit Registry Editor.
  7. In Windows Explorer, locate the following folder:
    drive:\Documents and Settings/username/Application Data/Microsoft/Excel
  8. Right-click Excel12.xlb, and then click Delete.
  9. Click Yes when you receive the following message:
    Are you sure you want to send 'Excel12.xlb' to the Recycle Bin?
