Windows DreamScene is a component that you can download to enhance the display background in Windows Vista Ultimate. A preview version of this component is available as an optional software update through the Windows Ultimate Extras section of Windows Update.

Overview
Windows DreamScene lets you select a video file instead of a static image as a desktop background in Windows Vista Ultimate.
Windows DreamScene includes high-quality looping videos from which you can select. You can also use one of the following methods to configure a video for use as the desktop background in Windows Vista Ultimate:
| • | You can obtain a video from another company that creates videos for use with Windows DreamScene. |
| • | You can create your own video for use with Windows DreamScene. |
Note Windows DreamScene also provides new positioning options for stationary image backgrounds.
For mobile PC users, Windows DreamScene is designed to pause the video to help conserve battery power according to the power saving settings that are configured in Windows Vista Ultimate.

System requirements
Windows DreamScene supports video files that are in one of the following formats:
| • | Moving Picture Experts Group (.mpeg)
Note Windows DreamScene supports MPEG 1 and MPEG 2 video files. Windows DreamScene does not support MPEG 4 video files. |
| • | Windows Media Video (.wmv) |
Additionally, to use a video as a display background in Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows DreamScene requires a graphics adapter that supports Windows Aero.

Note If the graphics adapter in the computer does not support Windows Aero, you can still use Windows DreamScene to enhance the display of stationary background images in Windows Vista Ultimate.

Removal information
To remove the preview version of Windows DreamScene, follow these steps:
| 1. | Click Start , type Programs and Features in the Start Search box, and then click Programs and Features in the Programs list.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or click Continue. |
| 2. | In the Tasks pane, click View installed updates. |
| 3. | Click Windows DreamScene Preview (KB929327), and then click Uninstall. |
