The Task Scheduler does not wake the computer to run a scheduled task in Windows Vista

SYMPTOMS

After you configure a scheduled task in Windows Vista, the Task Scheduler does not wake Windows Vista from sleep to run the scheduled task as expected. You experience this issue if you use the Create Basic Task Wizard to create the scheduled task.

Note The following information in Windows Vista Help indicates that this functionality is supported:
You can also set a condition that tells the task to wake the computer from sleep mode to run the task when the trigger is activated.

CAUSE

The option to wake Windows Vista is not available when you use the Create Basic Task Wizard to create a scheduled task. The functionality to wake Windows Vista to run a scheduled task is not considered part of a basic task.

Note For advanced options or settings, such as multiple task actions or triggers, use the Create Task command in the Actions pane.

RESOLUTION

To configure the Task Scheduler to wake Windows Vista to run a scheduled task, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start

    , type Task Scheduler in the Start Search box, and then click Task Scheduler in the Programs list.

    If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
  2. In the Actions pane of the Task Scheduler dialog box, click Create Task.
  3. In the Create Task dialog box, click the Conditions tab.
  4. Click to select the Wake the computer to run this task check box.
  5. In the Create Task dialog box, configure the options on the other tabs as appropriate for your needs, and then click OK.
