SYMPTOMS

You use the Import Wizard to try to import photos from an external media source to the Windows Media Center photo library on a Windows Vista-based computer. For example, you may try to import photos from a camera or from a USB flash drive. However, some of the files are not imported. Additionally, you may not receive an error message to notify you that not all the files were imported.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the destination path or the file name contains more than 255 characters. Or this may occur if both the destination path and the file name contain more than 255 characters. For example, this problem may occur if the destination folder for the imported photos is nested in many subfolders. In this scenario, the combined number of characters in the nested path and in the file name is more than 255.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do not use long names for files or for folders. Additionally, do not use many levels of nested folders as the destination folder when you import photos.
