Error message when you try to add files to the DVD-burning catalog in Media Center on a Windows Vista-based computer: "CD Creation Error: The CD drive currently contains the wrong type of CD. Please insert a writable CD."

When you try to add files to the DVD-burning catalog in Windows Media Center on a Windows Vista-based computer, you may receive the following error message: This problem occurs if you use the Sonic Solutions DVD creation engine when you try to add the files.

Note The Sonic Solutions DVD creation engine is technically known as the Sonic AuthorScript Video Engine.

This problem occurs if the files that you add to the DVD-burning catalog are not supported by the Sonic Solutions DVD creation engine.

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods:

• Remove the unsupported files from the DVD-burning catalog before you use the Sonic Solutions DVD creation engine to burn a DVD.
• Burn the files to a data DVD in Media Center. For more information about how to burn files to a data DVD, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

• Use Windows Explorer to burn the files. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Insert a writeable DVD into the DVD recorder.
  2. In the dialog box that appears, click Burn files to data disc.
  3. In the Burn a Disc dialog box, type a name for this disc, and then click Next.
     
     It might take several minutes for the disc to be formatted in the default Live File System format. When the formatting is finished, an empty disc folder opens.
  4. Open the folder that contains the files you want to burn in Windows Explorer. To select more than one item, hold down the CTRL key while you click the files you want.
  5. Drag the selected files into the empty disc folder. As you drag files into the disc folder, they are copied automatically to the disc.

This behavior is by design.
