A gadget that you downloaded from the Internet does not appear in the Windows Sidebar in Windows Vista

SYMPTOMS

In Windows Vista, a gadget that you downloaded from the Internet may appear to be installed correctly. However, the gadget does not appear in the Windows Sidebar as expected.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if the gadget does not support a language that is in the list of preferred languages for the current user.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

If a language for the gadget is not installed, the gadget does not appear in the Windows Sidebar. Typically, this issue occurs when the Japanese, French, or German version of Windows Vista is installed.

To help resolve this issue, ask the gadget developer to supply the language for the gadget.
