No items are displayed under Device Settings Manager in the SMS Administrator Console after you install the Device Management Feature Pack (DMFP) in Systems Management Server 2003

After you install the Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Device Management Feature Pack (DMFP) in SMS 2003 on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer, no items are displayed under the Device Settings Manager node in the SMS Administrator Console.

This issue may occur if the user account that you use to manage the SMS site and the SMS packages does not have the required security permissions set for the SMS site and for the SMS packages.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

Step1: Make sure that the user account is a member of the SMS Admins group

To determine whether the user account that you use to manage the SMS site and the SMS packages is a member of the SMS Admins group, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type Dsa.msc, and then click OK.
2. In the console tree, expand the server node, and then click Users.
3. In the results pane, double-click the user account that you use to manage the SMS site and the SMS packages.
4. In the User Account Properties dialog box, click the Member Of tab.
5. In the Member of list, make sure that the SMS Admins group is listed. If you do not see the SMS Admins group in the Member of list, add the group to the list. To do this, follow these steps:
   1. In the User Account Properties dialog box, click Add.
   2. In the Enter the object names to select box, type SMS Admins, and then click OK.
   3. Click OK to close the User Account Properties dialog box.
   4. On the File menu, click Exit to close the Active Directory Users and Computers window.

Step2: Make sure that appropriate permissions are set for the user account in the SMS Administrator Console for the SMS site and the SMS packages

To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Systems Management Server, and then click SMS Administrator Console.
2. In the console tree, expand Site Database (site code - site name), and then expand Site Hierarchy.
3. In the console tree, right-click site code - site name, and then click Properties.
4. In the site code - site name Site Properties dialog box, click the Security tab.
5. In the Class security rights list, double-click the user account that you want to verify.
6. In the Permissions list, make sure that the Read check box is checked. If the check box is not checked, click to select the Read check box.
7. Click OK to close the Object Class Security Right Properties dialog box.
8. Click OK to close the site code - site name Site Properties dialog box.
9. In the console tree, expand Packages.
10. In the console tree, right-click the package that you want to modify, and then click Properties.
11. In the PackageName Package Properties dialog box, click the Security tab.
12. In the Class security rights list, double-click the user account that you want to verify.
13. In the Permissions list, make sure that the Read check box is checked. If the check box is not checked, click to select the Read check box.
14. In the Permissions list, make sure that the Create check box is checked. If the check box is not checked, click to select the Create check box.
15. In the Permissions list, make sure that the Administer check box is checked. If the check box is not checked, click to select the Administer check box.
16. Click OK to close the Object Class Security Right Properties dialog box.
17. Click OK to close the PackageName Package Properties dialog box.
18. On the File menu, click Exit to close the Systems Management Server console.
