SYMPTOMS

After you opt in to Automatic Learning in Windows Vista, you experience the following symptoms:
  • The Handwriting recognition personalization tool does not gather some English text from the message bodies of e-mail messages in Windows Mail.
  • The Handwriting recognition personalization tool incorrectly gathers non-English text from the message bodies of e-mail messages in Windows Mail.
You experience this problem when you use Windows Vista on a Tablet PC.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of a problem with locale identifier (LCID) assignments on e-mail content in Windows Mail. The Automatic Learning feature in Windows Vista uses the LCID to detect and to gather English content. You may experience incorrect LCID assignments in one or more of the following scenarios:
  • The e-mail message was sent from a non-English version of Microsoft Office.
  • The e-mail message was sent from Windows Mail from a non-English version of Windows Vista.
  • Although the e-mail message was sent from Windows Mail, the message contains content in multiple languages.
  • The e-mail message was synchronized with a non-English version of Office.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
