INTRODUCTION

This article answers some frequently asked questions (FAQs) about how to use ProClarity Professional in a Citrix environment.

Citrix products provide solutions that enable on-demand access for application delivery. You may want to use ProClarity Professional together with Citrix products. For example, you may want to use ProClarity Desktop Professional as a client application from a server that has Citrix Presentation Server installed.

We do not officially support using ProClarity products in a Citrix environment. However, you can use ProClarity products in a Citrix environment.

Note We have not fully tested how to use ProClarity products in a Citrix environment. For example, we have not done the following tasks:
  • We have not stress tested how to use ProClarity Desktop Professional in a Citrix environment.
  • We have not tested deployments of ProClarity Professional in a Citrix environment.
  • We have not tested how to use Citrix Application Gateway together with ProClarity Analytics Server in a Citrix environment.
  • We have not tested how to use ProClarity products in a Citrix Presentation Server server farm.

Q1: Can I run ProClarity Professional in multiple languages from one server that has Citrix Presentation Server installed?

A1: A server that has Citrix Presentation Server installed cannot host multiple versions of an operating system at the same time. On a server that has the English version of an operating system installed, you can read documents and create documents that use non-Western character sets if the required font files are installed. However, the menus, the dialog boxes, and the operating system user interface on the server are in English.

For example, you cannot install the French version of ProClarity Professional and the Japanese version of ProClarity Professional on a server that has the English version of an operating system installed. You cannot do this by specifying different installation locations because ProClarity Professional copies the operating files to a common shared directory. Therefore, you can install only one version of the operating files.

The operating files include some Microsoft components. For example, the operating files include Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) and PivotTable Service. These components are copied to the following common shared directory:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Ole DB
Each version of ProClarity Professional requires its own version of MDAC and of PivotTable Service. If you try to run ProClarity Professional in multiple languages from one server, the operating files overwrite one another.

To work around this issue, you can run Citrix Presentation Server in a server farm. For example, you must have at least five servers that have Citrix Presentation Server installed if you want to run ProClarity Professional in five languages. Each server has one version of the operating system, of MDAC, and of PivotTable Service.

Note The five servers that have Citrix Presentation Server installed can use the same instance of Microsoft SQL Server and the same instance of ProClarity Analytics Server.

If you are building a server farm for a large-scale deployment, do not use the default Microsoft Office Access database that is offered by Citrix Presentation Server. If you use the default Access database, you experience locking issues and other performance issues. We recommend that you use a SQL Server database instead.

Q2: Can I associate the .bbk file name extension to ProClarity Desktop Professional in Citrix Presentation Server?

A2: Yes. If you associate the .bbk file name extension to the correct version of ProClarity Desktop Professional, ProClarity Desktop Professional starts when you open a .bbk file.

Q3: How can I bring ProClarity Desktop Professional to the foreground when ProClarity Desktop Professional is running as a client application?

A3: If ProClarity Desktop Professional is minimized, a button is displayed on the taskbar. However, if ProClarity Desktop Professional is running in the background as a client application, a button is not displayed on the taskbar. To bring ProClarity Desktop Professional to foreground in this case, press ALT+TAB.

An update that resolves this problem is available on the Citrix Web site.

Q4: How do user profiles work?

A4: When you run software that is served by Citrix Presentation Server, the local user profile is not transferred to Citrix Presentation Server. The desktop profile is saved on the local computer unless you use a thin client computer that has no local hard disk drive. The desktop profile contains the icons, the colors, and the shortcuts that are on the desktop.

If the Citrix Presentation Server administrator serves you a remote desktop, you may have to customize the remote desktop or ask the network administrator to set up a roaming desktop profile. If you have a roaming desktop profile, the server serves you the same desktop profile when you log on to any client computer.

If the Citrix Presentation Server administrator serves you only applications, you do not have a remote desktop profile. You use the desktop profile that is already set up on the local computer.

Q5: On a local computer, can I open files that I created by using ProClarity Professional as a client application in Citrix Presentation Server?

A5: You can open files that you created by using ProClarity Professional as a client application in Citrix Presentation Server. You do not experience permission issues when you open these files because you created the files by using your credentials on the remote desktop. The same credentials are used on the local computer.

To work around file transfer issues, follow these steps:
  1. Create a mapped network drive for the files.
  2. In ProClarity Professional, save the files to the mapped network drive.
  3. Copy the files from the mapped network drive to the local computer.
You can access the mapped network drive when you log on to any client computer. Ask the network administrator about the availability of mapped network drives.

Note If you store the files by using ProClarity Analytics Server on a server, the files are written to this server and are retrieved from this server. You can open these files from the server regardless of which client computer that you used to create the files.
